Douglas H Betts

Douglas Hilchie Betts, 89, a man who loved being a doctor, died in St. Johnsbury on March 30 from complications of Covid.
Douglas was born in Ontario Canada in 1934, the son of Edward and Evelyn Hilchie Betts. He earned a B.Sc. from Mt. Allison University in 1956 and an M.D. from Dalhousie University in 1961. He served his medical internship at St. John General Hospital in New Brunswick and residencies in Ontario at the Hospital for Sick Children and Sunnybrook Hospital.
Following time at McGill University, Douglas settled in Burlington in 1984 where he was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UVM Medical Center and had a private practice for 30 years.
He is survived by his stepdaughter and her husband Allyssa and Cedric Stevens, and their son William of Burlington as well as his sister Eileen French of Ottawa.
Douglas loved to read, tell stories, visit with family and friends, and study his favorite artist, Salvador Dali. He was very excited to learn how to swim at the age of 88 thanks to his friend Robin. His knowledge of history and psychiatry was vast but most of all, Douglas loved being a doctor.
