Douglas M. Bowser, lovingly known as Pop Pop, passed away on February 28th 2025, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, Ms. Visitation will be held at New Heights Baptist Church on March 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM with services at 2:00 PM. Doug will then be laid to rest in Hollywood Cemetery, in McComb. Ms.
Doug was the only son of John and Agnes Bowser. He was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania on February 25, 1942. Doug spent the majority of his life as a resident of McComb, MS where he proudly worked as a dry wall finisher, until an injury forced his retirement in 1998. Doug's love and knowledge for firearms was absolutely insurmountable. He authored four books explaining every detail of war rifles. He was so incredibly proud of that accomplishment. He served alongside some of his very best friends, as secretary of Southwest Gun Club for over 40 years. He was very active in competitive shooting sports, right up to the time of his death. He spent a good bit of time instructing and training youth to compete in youth shooting sports, and was able to serve as a judge for several years. He also instructed enhanced conceal carry
courses, locally for many years. When he was not at "the range", he could likely be found with his Burger King "breakfast club", watching war movies in his recliner or spending time with his five grandchildren, who live locally. He took great pride in being an involved grandfather and helping his family out in any way he possibly could.
Doug was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in McComb and served as an RA leader for several years. Upon the closure of Central, he joined his family at New Heights Baptist Church in October of 2023. His presence will be missed by so many.
Doug is preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters Shirley Homer and Ann Brooks, one daughter Koreen Geminez, one grandson Jacob Russ, one great granddaughter Nolee Wilkinson and two sons-in-law Edward Dugar and Andy Mathis.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda May Bowser. Five daughters, Kelly Mathis, Koleen Posavec (Tommy), Kimberly Dugar, Kristen Esteves (Johnny) and Jessica Edwards (Danny). Three sons, Bobby May (Paula), Jason May and Kurt Bowser.
Twenty-one grandchildren: Hayden, Ian, Emmalyn, Britton, Leighton, Justin, Jennifer, Charles, Allison, Lucas, Brooklyn, Chance, Lloyd, Nicole, Blake, Eric, Charlene, Katie, Jeannette, Matthew and Jillian, Twenty-seven Great Grandchildren: Grayson M., Sophia, Chloe, Gabriel, Nevaeh, Lazarez, Noah, Sophia K., Emma, Jane, Ashley, Haley, Hil, Paxtyn, Harper, Susannah, Olive, Lillian, Layla, Lauren, Caden, Ella, Bailey, Mason, Elijah, Grayson R., and Liam. One son-in-law Mike Geminez, and a host of friends from Southwest Gun Club.
Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons: Danny Edwards, Hayden Edwards, Bobby May, Justin May, Lloyd Dunaway, Matthew Mollett, Blake Dugar and Eric Dugar.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Ian Edwards, Julius Moore and the members of Southwest Gun Club.

Have known Doug since the 90s when he and Powers Dunaway were in business selling C&R firearms. I bought a number of them as well as all his excellent books. Later, he came to my house to pick up firearms to sell for me. His knowledge on this topic was huge.
