Douglas Brewster Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bennie Smith Funeral Home - Dover on Nov. 24, 2025.
Douglas R. Brewster was born in Bayshore, Long Island, New York, on August 28, 1939, to the late Hewlett and Dora Brewster. On November 15, 2025, he peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In 1963, Douglas married the love of his life, Eileen Moore, in a union officiated by Bishop Samuel Shelton. Together, they shared 62 years of devotion, joy, and unwavering companionship. Their marriage was a shining example of faith, love, and commitment.
Douglas was preceded in death by his brothers, Hewlett Jr. and Howard. By the late 1970s, while residing in the Bronx, New York, Douglas and Eileen were blessed with two sons, Douglas II and Jason, who later married Lezlie and Shezell. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he embraced his role as a devoted husband, father, and community leader.
In 1958, Douglas joined the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith under the leadership of Bishop Omega Shelton. His dedication to ministry was evident as he served faithfully as the Y.P. President in New York City for many years. He worked diligently in the men's department alongside clergymen and was later ordained as "Deacon Douglas Brewster," a title he carried with honor and humility.
Professionally, Douglas built a long and respected career as an electrical technician with NY Telephone Company, later known as Verizon. After retiring in 1991, he and Eileen relocated to Delaware, where they enjoyed their golden years together.
Douglas lived a life rich with fellowship and joy. He delighted in traveling with loved ones, attending family gatherings, savoring crabs at church picnics, cheering on football and basketball games, playing billiards with friends, and relaxing at festivals with his beloved wife. A man of many passions, he especially loved music, jazz being his favorite. He learned to play the bass guitar and shared his love of music with his children. In his younger years, he even sang with a group of brothers, leaving behind melodies that echoed his spirit.
He leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren-Stephanie, Jason, Elijah, Christina, and Christopher-along with a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends. Douglas Robert Brewster's legacy is one of faith, love, and service. His life was a testament to devotion: to God, to family, and to community. Though he has departed this earthly life, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
