Douglas Wayne Brooks, affectionately known as Wayne, passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 73, in his hometown of
Corsicana, Texas. Wayne was born to the joy of his family on January 8, 1952, in the same close-knit community where he would eventually raise his own family and touch the lives of many.
Wayne, a Corsicana native through and through, graduated from Dawson High School in 1971 and soon after began his working career. He dedicated 15 years of service to Chattanooga Glass until its closure, and not one to rest on his laurels, Wayne transitioned to Morgan Corporation in 1989. There, he continued his industrious journey, contributing his skills and work ethic for 25 years until his well-earned retirement at the age of 62.
In his personal life, Wayne was a beacon of warmth and hospitality, known for his friendly demeanor, his quick wit, and his boundless love for his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to and survived by his beloved wife Betsy Brooks, son Buddy and his wife Shara, his daughter Kelli and her partner Paul Ramirez, his sister Juanita Owens and her husband Don, brother Terry Brooks and his wife Mary. Wayne's legacy extended to his cherished grandchildren, Brittany and her partner Zoe, Lacey and her partner Brendan, Henlee, and Nathan and his partner Lexi, as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Issac, Layla, and MJ. He also held a special place in his heart for his nephews Jimmy and Kenny, niece Kristen Brooks, great-niece Brynn Owens. He is preceded in death by his father E. O. "Buddy" Brooks and mother Lavern Brooks.
Beyond his family, Wayne's interests reflected his passion for life and his community. An avid gardener, he cultivated a bountiful harvest each year, generously sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors. His love for gardening was paralleled only by his enthusiasm for football. For 25 years, Wayne could be found on the football field on Friday nights, not as a spectator, but as an official, sharing his love and knowledge of the game with the next generation of players and fans.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Wayne will remember him for his infectious laughter, his heartwarming presence, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved. He navigated life's challenges with grace and humor, and his ability to see the good in every situation inspired those around him.
Wayne's life was one of purpose and joy, a testament to the power of love, laughter, and dedication. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and community spirit that will continue to resonate for years to come.
As we bid farewell to Douglas Wayne Brooks, we celebrate the remarkable life he led and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories and laughter shared among friends and family, under the vast Texas sky he so dearly loved. Wayne's journey on this earth may have ended, but his spirit will forever be a guiding light for those he leaves behind.
