Douglas Lee Brunke, known to many as Doug, was a man of great strength, kindness, and dedication. Born on April 13, 1964, in Buchanan, Michigan, Doug lived a life full of passion and hard work. He passed away peacefully at his home in Berrien Springs on January 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
We celebrate a life well-lived, and a man deeply loved at 12 noon on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Berrien County Baptist Church, 5940 St. Joseph Avenue, Stevensville, Michigan. Doug’s life was marked by his love for his family and his dedication to his work. He married Lorie Bennett, on October 31, 2014. Together, they shared many adventures, including long-distance trucking, a job Doug took immense pride in. His passion for projects, whether it was woodworking, house renovations, or welding, showcased his incredible talent and willingness to help others.
Doug’s love for riding his Harley was another defining aspect of his life. The freedom and joy he found on the open road were unmatched, and he often spoke of the peace it brought him. His Harley rides were a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for life.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Lorie Bennett; his parents, Ed and Linda (Gardiner) Brunke; his sibling Melissa Brunke-Jones (Dean); his 7 children Claire Brunke (Fiancé Chance), Sarah Kaurin (George), Samantha Brunke-Cologna (Jeffrey), Alicia Gatties (Dylan), Trevor Gray (Olivia) Steven Lewis (Catherine) and Jenine Lewis (Jason Grimmett) along with his 12 grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
