Douglas Carl Childs

Doug Childs, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 3, 2025, in College Station, Texas.

Doug was born on April 16, 1953, to Virginia and Doad Childs in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He relocated to Texas in 1984, where he embarked on a fulfilling career as a facility manager first at Huntsville State Prison and then at CHI St. Joseph Health Hospital. Combined, he dedicated 34 years, consistently demonstrating commitment, professionalism, and a remarkable work ethic. Doug was known to assist during natural disasters, where he provided vital crisis assistance.

Doug was a man of many passions; he had a lifelong love for classic cars, with a particular fondness for his 1967 Mustang, which he bought in his teenage years. This appreciation for automobiles was complemented by his enthusiasm for car shows and collecting car memorabilia, antiques, and Disney's Doc Hudson Hornet collectibles. Doug's interests extended into music and yard work, pursuits that brought him joy and contentment.

Known for his loving, funny, loyal, and caring nature, Doug always went out of his way to help others. He had a unique ability to connect with those around him, often passing along compassion for others and a zest for life. His sense of humor and warm spirit were infectious, making him a good friend to many and a cherished figure in the lives he touched.

Doug's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he took great pride in being a firm believer in God.

Doug is survived by his devoted wife, Deb Childs; his cherished children, Austin Childs and his wife Stephanie, Garrett Childs, Jennifer Warren and her husband Joseph, and Jacob Carrell; his grandson Bodhi Childs and his granddaughter who will be joining the family in a few months; his siblings Dave Childs and his wife Barb, Vicky Hatthorn, Pamala Childs, Tony Childs and his wife Charlotte, Jeff Childs and Carla Blair and her husband Matt; numerous nieces and nephews and his dog, Lucy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Doad Childs and his sister, Antoinette Childs Westpheling.

Doug will be remembered not only for the legacy of love and friendship he leaves behind but also for the remarkable stories he created throughout his life. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
