Douglas Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Downs Funeral Home - Superior on Dec. 30, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Douglas Wayne Davis on December 25, 2025.

Doug was born January 30, 1954, in Munich, Germany, to John & Ann Davis while John was serving in the United States Air Force. Following military service, the family of three returned to the U.S., settling in Minneapolis. Over time, their loving family grew to six and they shared many happy years in the 1960's small towns of Glendive and Glasgow, Montana. Young Doug enjoyed racing HO slot cars & winning a wheelie contest at the Fairgrounds on his Spyder bike. The family relocated to Superior in 1967 & Doug happily made Superior his forever home & loved researching its history.

He worked at: Musicland, Schaack Electronics, & finally at Duluth Regional Care Center (DRCC), a job he truly loved, helping clients develop life skills.

Creative from the very start, Doug's first joy was music. From an early age his ear was glued to AM radio, later FM underground stations. In 1967 the school band director recommended Doug learn the trumpet, which he refused! While on a 1970 family vacation he found a Lyle bass guitar in Whitefish, MT at a yard sale. Soon he was playing in local bands: Thunderbuck Ram (w brother Brad), Zipper, Coyote, but was most proud playing upright bass with Lew Orsoni, a folk-jazz singer/songwriter.

He was a talented artist and truly loved the thrill of finding and collecting vintage items from his many road trips with his brother Gregg, his constant companion. Doug also co-authored the book "Badger Bars and Tavern Tales", motivated by his love of all things Wisconsin beer and saloon history.

He cherished raising his daughter Amanda and never declined an opportunity to chaperone her school outings, where her classmates consistently requested to be in Doug's group. Often hailed as "the coolest dad," his joy grew even deeper when he became a grandfather to Adalyn and Natalie.

A beautiful soul who cared deeply about being fair and kind to other people, Doug was most pleased when he saw others spreading love and care.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Ann and John Davis.

He leaves behind his daughter, Amanda (Jeff) Burkhart; siblings, Brad (Julie) Davis, Julie (Joe) Trevino, and Gregg (Leigh Ann) Davis; granddaughters, Natalie and Adalyn Burkhart; nieces and nephews, Kelly (Justin) Walters, Jacob (Laurel) Trevino, and Lauren (Joe) Heinen.

Please join our family in celebrating Doug's life. Stop by anytime on Saturday, January 17, 2026 between 1:00–4:00 p.m. at VIP Pizza in Superior.
