Douglas Dehority Obituary

Douglas W. "Doug" Dehority

April 12, 1960 - August 22, 2025

Forsyth – Douglas W. "Doug" Dehority, 65, of Forsyth, Ill., passed away Friday, August 22, 2025.

Doug was born on April 12, 1960, in Pontiac, Ill., the son of William and Marilyn (Bohlander) Dehority. He grew up in El Paso, Ill. with his two sisters, Kim and Becky. While in high school, Doug played basketball, was the quarterback for the El Paso Comets, and held the El Paso High School pole vault record for many years.

Doug attended Eastern Illinois University where he received his undergraduate degree and his MBA. While attending EIU, he spent two years as a kicker on the football team. He was also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. It was at EIU that he met Carla Sue Freeland. They were married on January 8, 1983, in Mattoon, Ill.

He was the proud father of Jared and Jennica. He spent many seasons coaching their baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball teams.

As much as he loved being a father, he loved the title of "Papa" even more.

As an adult he played fast pitch and slow pitch softball competitively, played basketball at Our Lady of Lourdes, and also played golf.

He always had a love of coaching, not just his children's teams, but many other teams throughout the years. Doug coached basketball at OLOL and St. Teresa for over 15 years combined.

His love of sports carried over to St. Teresa football. You could find Doug every Friday on the sidelines, in shorts with a clipboard in hand. He was a familiar face around St. Teresa in so many capacities. From running the scoreboard to substitute teaching, everyone at the school knew him as "coach".

For nearly 40 years, he built relationships in the banking industry throughout central Illinois. The only time he was not behind a desk at a bank or credit union, was when he spent two and a half years as a teaching assistant at Warrensburg-Latham High School. That was one of the most rewarding parts of career.

Doug volunteered his time and participated within many organizations throughout Decatur. He also served as the chapter advisor of the Sigma Chi fraternity at EIU for seven years.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Kay Freeland.

Doug is survived by his wife, Carla of Forsyth; children, Jared (Katie) Dehority of Plainfield and Jennica (Don) Mahoney of Lemont; grandchildren, Tenley, Harper, Kaylee, Hutton, Daylon, and Collins; sisters, Becky (Lawney) Gruen of Bloomington and Kim (Dave) Duncan of El Paso; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, El Paso, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Teresa High School.
