Doug was born on December 3, 1945, in Flint, Michigan to the late Lorain & Marguerite (Ostrander) Derwin. He graduated from Holy Redeemer School, class of 1963. Doug proudly served his country in the United States Marines. Doug married Verna Groesser on June 17, 1972.
Doug loved to deer hunt and fish. He hunted on his nephew's land in Escanaba and fished on his and Neil's boat, "Rock-n-Roll", throughout Michigan but mostly at Arcadia. He would tinker with his sprinklers and work in his yard. Recent years Doug and his wife were regulars to the Loose Senior Citizens Center of Linden where they played cards. Above all those who knew him best will miss him dearly for his sense of humor, storytelling and his gift to make others feel at ease. Doug came by the nickname of the "Fun Uncle" naturally as he had a way about him to light up a room.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years in marriage, Verna; his children, Steve (Heather) Derwin and Donna (Jeff) Sansoterra; grandchildren, Alex Derwin, Alyssa (Chris) Leslie, Brennan Drane and Jeff (Philicia) Drane and 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Doug is further survived by his siblings, Deanna Hughes, Martha LaBranche and Bill (Beth) Derwin and sisters-in-law, Darla Derwin, Vicki (Doug) Murany, Mardell (Laird) Landis, Rhonda (Lee) Nunn and Yvonne Groesser.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Derwin and brothers-in-law, Tom LaBranche, Peter Hughes and Greg Groesser.
