Doug and I were in Kindergarten together at Cahill and he was my first crush on a boy. I remember years later at the 7th grade dance, Doug was the only one to ask me to dance. I remember that night and the song Little Surfer Boy that we danced to. He was always so nice to me back in those awkward shy years. Doug was also in the high school group in 1974 that went camping with Mr. Zellmer up by Split Rock Light House. I was always envy of his long blonde hair back in those high school years. We didn't keep in touch but I always remembered the name Doug Dickey and it would bring a smile to my face. God Bless.

I met Doug when we were in the 4th grade and I had just moved to Edina. We were in the same class and the teacher asked him to keep me from getting lost in that confusing school (Creek Valley). It didn't work - I still got lost! We shared some interests, and both our fathers were architects, so we had unique houses to explore, as well as the woods and the lake behind his house. Although we didn't remain close past the elementary school years, I still have fond memories of his friendship at a time when I needed a friend.
