Douglas Dunn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home on Apr. 30, 2025.
Douglas T. Dunn, age 55, of Spring City, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his home alongside his family, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Born in Darby PA, he was the son of the late Charles Dunn and Maria ("Polly", nee Walsh) Dunn.
Doug's life revolved around serving God and others. He graduated from St. Charles Seminary with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, with graduate studies at Washington Theological Union. After his studies he began a life of service, working with children with disabilities at St. Edmonds Home. He was also Director of Religious Education at Sacred Heart Parish in Royersford. He then began his teaching career as a Theology teacher at St. Pius X High School, where he was also an assistant football coach, and later at Pope John Paul II High School, where he taught for 15 cherished years.
His dedication to the Archdiocese and its children went beyond just employment. He led over 53 kairos retreats for his students. For over 25 years, he volunteered at the Archbishop's Christmas Party for Catholic Social Services, where he portrayed Santa Claus for the children in attendance. He loved all his students, but had a special fondness for the student-athletes, especially the volleyball players. He also moderated the student council and community service corps, as well as the chess and game club.
An Avid Eagles fan, he was thrilled to watch both Super Bowl victories alongside his family. In his free time, Doug loved reading a good book, watching a good (or by his own admission, sometimes very bad) horror movie, or enjoying a good meal. He was always happy spending quality time around family, friends, and his beloved cat, Orange Juice.
He is survived by his five siblings Chuck (Nancy) Dunn, Maria (Joe) Hollis, Steven (Cassie) Dunn, Matthew Dunn, and Erin Dunn (Brian Mengini). He was also an adored and doting uncle of Rebecca Dunn Mann, Abby Dunn, Sarah Dunn, Christopher Dunn, Julia Dunn, Emma Dunn, Matthew Dunn, and Finton Mengini, as well as a great-uncle to Eliana and Isabel Mann.
Relatives and friends will be received from 4 - 8 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Pope John Paul II High School Chapel, 181 Rittenhouse Rd, Royersford, PA 19468 (https://www.google.com/maps/search/181+Rittenhouse+Rd,+Royersford,+PA+19468?entry=gmail&source=g)
Relatives and friends are also invited to attend his funeral service at Pope John Paul II High School Auditorium, 181 Rittenhouse Rd, Royersford, PA 19468 (https://www.google.com/maps/search/181+Rittenhouse+Rd,+Royersford,+PA+19468?entry=gmail&source=g), on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10 am. Officiating will be Fr. Chung Nguyen. Burial will follow in the SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Doug's name to the Pope John Paul Fund 181 Rittenhouse Rd Royersford, PA 19468
