Douglas Ford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chatman-Harris Funeral Home East on Mar. 16, 2026.
Douglas MacArthur Ford passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on March 15, 2026, at 3:21 a.m. at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born on August 18, 1944, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, to the late James and Fannie Ford.

Douglas spent much of his life in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and built both a career and a loving family. Early in his working life, he was employed at General Electric for five years. Afterward, he worked at Sachs and Bober Meat Company, where he continued his strong work ethic. When Sachs and Bober closed, Douglas began a long and dedicated career as a medical courier for over the next 26 years, where he faithfully served the medical community. His final position was as a driver for Broadway Transportation Division, where he worked for three years before retiring in 2012 to enjoy more time with his family.

Douglas shared a loving marriage with his devoted wife, Willie Mae Ford, for 60 years. Although they first knew each other in South Carolina, they reunited in 1963 and remained inseparable ever since, building a life grounded in love, commitment, and family.

Douglas found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching the Baltimore Orioles, playing cards-especially the game of 500-and spending time outdoors with family. Many cherished memories were made playing football with his family in Druid Hill Park and visiting his sisters' homes. Above all else, Douglas loved being surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Willie Mae Ford; his two children, Lisa Ford (Bobby) and Michael Ford; eight grandchildren, Rashad, Morgan, Ashley, Michael Jr. Tayvon, Harry, Greg and Anthony; seven great-grandchildren, Shaquille, Taliyah, Trent, Khaylee, Khyair, Nolan and Nola. He is also survived by his sisters, Ozella and Ophelia Stanley and host of nieces and nephews both in Maryland and South Carolina.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, James and Fannie Ford; his brothers, Bill, Daniel, and George Ford; and his sisters, Louise, Dorothy, Mildred, and Martha.

Douglas MacArthur Ford will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the joy he found in spending time with those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
