Douglas Garfield

Garfield, Douglas "Winston" James. Douglas "Winston" James Garfield, a native of Milwaukee Wisconsin and a resident of Mandeville, Louisiana passed away on January 19th, 2023 at the age of 63. Winston was preceded in death by his parents Robert F. Garfield sr. , Dorothy H. Garfield and his brothers Robert F. Garfield Jr, and Jeffrey Allen Garfield. He is survived by his partner Tracy Deroche, seven children Casimer Garfield, Timmy and Tyler Hren, Douglas, Catherine, Luther and Christopher Deroche. His brother Rodney Garfield and three sisters, Pamela Zimmer, Laurel Garfield and Jill Plank. His nieces and nephews: Kerri Hertzig, Traci Rolf, Jeff Garfield, Matt Garfield, Steven Zimmer, Natalie Batagglia & Haley Kucharskin. His aunts Patricia Pajunen and Barbara Geiger. Cousins Chris Van Hefty, Andrea Sorce, Tony Geiger, Amy Chadha, Tim Garfield and Sherrie Jo Cole. While living in Milwaukee he attended St. Albert Elementary and Dominican High School. After leaving Wisconsin he moved to Texas for a short while but then Winston moved to San Francisco where he was a big fish in a big pond. There he started his own Market Research company and after several years he took the company and moved it to Palm Springs. It was hard to leave the sun and relaxed lifestyle of Palm Springs but he again moved. He called Mandeville home for the last 10 years. There he was able to enjoy his love of seafood almost on a daily basis. Winston had two requests upon his death. He wanted to be cremated and no funeral. He said that if he did not like going to them that he was not going to make people attend his funeral. However, later this Spring there will be a celebration of life and scattering his ashes at his favorite place, Big Cedar Lake in Wisconsin. Here is where he spent his summers as a child and later on brought his kids there for an entire summer to enjoy the lake. Winston loved Europe and enjoyed his travels to Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Russia and several other countries. He had already made plans to go to Greece which was his dream vacation but due to Covid restrictions it had been postponed for two years. This summer his family still intends to fulfill his dream and make arrangements to have some of his ashes scattered in Greece.
