I can't believe it has been three years since we lost Doug. Larry my husband misses him all the time. He keeps saying, I wish I could just call Doug and talk to him. As hunting season comes and goes, I think of him all the time. You are very missed Doug.

I found out of Doug's passing Oct 15, 2016... We would share hunting pics via texts throughout the years. I killed my doe on the 15th of Oct and sent him a picture. It said it failed to send twice.. I then texted Doug? No response so I googled his name and found his obituary and cried for 2 hours solid. I met Doug and his family when I was waitressing @ Dos on the Redlands approx 11 years ago. They were family to me. I enjoyed his sense of humor, his jokes, his laughter, his stories, his wisdom and his positive outlook. I'm very blessed to have seen him and let him know how much he impacted my life before his depart. Oh God, I will miss you greatly Doug... I'm saddened for us who will forever miss him but happy for him, now you will no longer suffer and hurt. (as he would say)..
What a dear soul.. RIP Friend
My deepest condolences to the entire family : (

I would like to add second note to the record. The day he made that shot you see in the pic was another one of those amazing days spent with Doug, Ole 10 spot. That's what he was tagged with the rest of the day. Doug introduced me to a ritual that I had watch him perform many times up at the bow range on Glade Park from a certain location. This ritual was to send an arrow across the canyon in Memorial of a family member, close friend or anyone he had great respect for that had passed from this world. He also joined me when I sent one into the canyon for my Mother and several friends.
Today fittingly on Octobers Full Moon, (The Hunters SuperMoon). Doesn't get any better than that ! I put his name, life dates and a message to him on an Ash shaft arrow and sent it into the canyon. I know he will have the fire going when I finally get to Camp ! Thanks for the Memories ! Love Ya Brother !!!

Doug and I have become such good e-mail buddies since Larick doesn't do the computer. We would share back and forth. He became very dear to me. The last time I saw Doug was at our wedding - I am so glad he signed our marriage license. It is a very dear memory having Judy and Doug there. I don't know what Larick is going to do without his "hunting buddy." They talked at least once a week and many times had lunch once a week. He is definitely Larick's best friend. He is going to miss him dearly. They were so close - it was a wonderful friendship for many years. Judy, you and your family are in our thoughts today and for a long time to come. We will miss you Doug very much. Susan Spencer

Ron always said Doug was his best for as long as he could remember. We had such a wonderful time when the Gray family visited us in FL and when we visited them in CO. The girls wanted to know if he was always so funny. We had many laughs and the banana joke lasted for years - I found so many banana items when going through Ron's things after he passed in 2010. Doug always sent an email on Ron's birthday and the anniversary of his death asking how the girls and I were doing. Only a best friend would do that for six years. My prayers are with you all as you begin this journey without him. Love to all, Pat

To Mrs Gray and Family,
My deepest condolences, Doug was a Man of honor and respectful of others, he was always a great leader and support for his fellow Union members on the western slope, it was always an honor and a pleasure to work with him during contract negotiations.
He was also a good friend.
God Bless you all

Many people come in and out of our lives everyday but only a few become true friends. Doug was one of those who like his son Dan, became lifelong friends.
Doug, along with his old friend Gus drove to Texas about 25 years ago to hunt hogs with me on the Nail Ranch. Upon meeting him for the first time I remember thinking to myself, "this guy is crazy", which was obviously confirmed after a few hours in the woods. Doug was one of the funniest, craziest, fun people I've ever known. Always laughing, always pulling pranks and telling jokes, but always respectful, giving and caring of those around him.
I recall our first successful stalk on a big spotted boar, just as Doug touched off the trigger of the handgun, the hog moved a little to the left causing a less than perfect shot. The big boar blows out of the creek bottom and heads south at a high rate of speed, Doug and I go into a full sprint for close to a half mile where we catch up to the hog, giving Doug the split second he needed to put the hog down for good. Doug turns to me and says "you run pretty fast for a young fellow". Lol. I knew right then I'd met my match.
Every year since that day, Doug and Dan have been lifelong friends of ours that not only hunted together but stayed in touch year around. I've had the pleasure of knowing his beautiful wife Judy and Dan's wife Carol as well as many other family members and friends he brought along for a hunt at The Nail.
Doug will be missed in many ways but as I go about my days driving the back roads of The Nail Ranch, I have many memories of him around every bend.
Until we meet again my Brother!!!
May God bless his family.

How can you put 35 years of friendship into one memory. Doug started out as a co-worker at City Market. He invited me to join him and a couple of co- workers who ran on lunch breaks. What started out as a 20 minute run a few times a week progressed into after work and weekend training runs for various 10K and half marathons in Moab and around Grand Junction. Doug would talk about "personal best" times - often keeping track of mileage and run times. I found myself training for a race over the Monument with our group and later a run over Imogene Pass. I have no idea how many hundreds of miles Doug and I ran - me complaining about the up-hill stretches and him sharing jokes when I needed a laugh. Later, though we eventually gave up running, we stayed in touch through visits to the Gray's home and pizza nights out. We will miss Doug: quick witted entertainer, story teller, master of a good joke - with the ability to remember every punch line. I will miss my friend who shared all those miles.

Ill never forget the time that Doug and I went to bob blacks to have his big deer scored. I enjoyed visiting with him that day and had a few laughs. I can't remember what the deer scored, but I know it was bigger than anything that I have ever killed. I will miss seeing him come into the shop with all his big deer. My condolences to the family, he will be missed!
