Douglas Griffus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Martin Chapel in Chesaning on Jan. 7, 2025.
Douglas Grant Griffus, age 70 of Brady Township died January 5, 2025, at Memorial Health Care in Owosso, after a long and difficult battle with diabetes.
The family will receive friends at McGeehan Funeral Homes, Martin Chapel, on Thursday from 2pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2pm at McGeehan Funeral Homes, Martin Chapel. Burial will follow at Griffus Cemetery.
Doug was born March 22, 1954, in Owosso Michigan to Grant and Beryl (Bates) Griffus. He was a single man who never married and lived his entire life at the family Centennial farm in Brady Township. He took great pride in his lawn and could often be seen picking up sticks and twigs after a storm to keep it pristine. The sticks and twigs served his other great passion, bon fires. Several fire rings dotted the farm, and smoke could be seen rising from any one of them nearly every day the weather permitted. Rarely would you ever meet a gentler soul who always met you with a smile, a kind word and offers to help you in any way he could. His kindness will be sorely missed.
As a young man, Doug worked for his Uncle Richard Whaley on his dairy farm near Elsie until the cows were sold. After that he worked for the Oakley Hardwoods Sawmill for 14 years before retiring.
He is survived by his sister Claudia (Steve) Kienitz of Chesaning, Bethany (Dale) Jacobs of Bad Axe, brother David (Edith) Griffus of Owosso, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as well as close friends and neighbor Jack and Debbie, who helped watch over him too.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Raymond Griffus and sister Margaet (Dale) Spencer.
Memorial donations are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in Doug's name.
