Douglas Group Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by In Memoriam on Jun. 17, 2024.
Douglas Charles Group, 70, of Northglenn, Colorado passed away on June 9, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion and kindness for all who knew and loved him.
Doug was born on July 1, 1953, in Munich, Germany to Theresa and Carl Group. He grew up in a military family spending his early years at Barksdale Airforce Base in Louisiana. He lived in South Dakota as a teenager moving to Okinawa, Japan in 1970 where he graduated from Kubasaki High School, class of '71. After high school he studied carpentry and earned his degree as a Master Cabinet Maker/Artisan, eventually making his way to Colorado.
Doug spent his early career as a stockbroker and investment adviser. He thrived and excelled in his career, holding the title of Senior VP of Sales/Operations at James Wheeler and CO. For the last 20 years he was the President of his own company, DCG Financial Services. He loved connecting & advising his clients while building lifelong friendships.
Doug was a devoted husband to his loving wife Julia for 35 years, building a life full of lasting memories.
Doug maintained his passionate hobby of woodworking throughout his life. He cherished creating custom works of art for his wife, children & grandchildren. You could always find him working in his garage or binging Netflix. Some of his favorites were cooking shows, horrible SciFi movies and documentaries. Doug enjoyed classic rock music and learned how to play the drums to some of his favorite songs. He was always up for adventure & trying new things.
The 4th of July was his holiday, always getting the best & loudest fireworks possible. He enjoyed summers at the pool and water balloon fights in the yard. He shared a passion for classic cars with his son and grandsons. His prized possession was a '54 Chevy. He loved racing his RC cars, flying his drones & model building.
But by far he would tell you his greatest joy was being a Papa.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Theresa Group and his son Jeremy Jara.
Survivors include his wife Julia Group; daughters Christina (Stephen) McKinzie, Jordan Group; grandchildren Megan McKinzie, Hannah Hadley, Kayla Petersen, Brianna Jara, Alyna Jara, Douglas Jara, Noah Jara and eight great-grandchildren.
There are not enough words or sentiments that can fully capture the true essence of who he was. His absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled. He was truly loved and will be forever missed.

Doug has been a trusted friend for as long as I can remember. Starting back in the my early days in Colorado, he was a trusted friend and valuable confidant. He and I combined to build a future for our families and a very successful brokerage operation. We became instant friends because of our love for classic rock and the drums. I couldn't believe it when he bought that awesome electric drum kit. I knew he was more than talk at that point. He loved it. When we met, our children were babies and we shared the growth of our families together. Doug was a great friend when it came to our families. We could talk about anything and knew the other would understand and keep our discussions private. For years, that is a lot of back and forth. When we started the business, we were joined at the hip to navigate the constant pitfalls that would come our way. Doug was a very valuable business asset and also a great friend. We had a lot of challenges but just as many laughs. If I ever needed someone to talk to, I could count on Doug. I hope that he felt the same about me. Words cannot describe the sadness that we feel for you and your family. It is a shock that he has passed away. He was way too young and young minded. I know how much he loved his family and I bet that he was a fun grand dad. I sincerely hope that he did not suffer. Our prayers go out to the family and I know that you can be sure that he is with our Father in heaven. God bless you Doug . Rest in peace and save us a place next to you in Saint Michael's Army.
Love, Jim and Susan Wheeler
