Douglas Neill Harris III, age 70, of Franklin, TN and Vero Beach, FL passed away unexpectedly on September 11, 2024 at his home in Vero Beach. Doug was born on June 15, 1954, in Nashville, TN to Douglas and Christine (Duke) Harris Jr. Doug led a fulfilling life marked by devotion to his church, loving family, cherished friends, and the love of golf.
Doug graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1972. He attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he met the love of his life, Nancy (McConnell) in 1974. The two married on November 24, 1979, in Hendersonville, TN.
After attending college, Doug began his career at his father's printing company, Harris Press. In 1997, Doug founded his own sports marketing company, Sports Entertainment Group (SEG). At SEG, he produced game day programs for the Tennessee Titans for over 10 years. His passion for hospitality, entertainment and sports sparked his most recent business endeavor, TheTailgateTN. However, his favorite job was being "Pops" to his three young grandchildren Bishop, Madeline and Douglas V, "Dougie".
Doug was a man of deep faith, which he shared freely with others. For 30 years, Doug and Nancy lived in Franklin, Tennessee where they were steadfast members of Oak Valley Baptist Church. In 2022, Doug and Nancy moved to Vero Beach, Florida and became members of King's Baptist Church. He was proud to serve as a Deacon at both congregations. Doug's journey was one of simply taking care of others.
Outside of church, family and work, Doug spent all of his free time on the golf course. His greatest golf accomplishments include two-time U.S. Senior Open participant, 2015 Tennessee Senior State Open Champion, four-time Senior/Super Senior Tennessee State Four-Ball Champion, and many more tournament wins. Doug also recorded eight holes-in-one just one more than his son, Douglas.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Christine Harris Jr.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, Morgan Miner (Chip), Douglas Harris IV, (Kerry), his three grandchildren Bishop, Madeline and Dougie, his two sisters, Jan Lee (Randy) and Claudia Harris, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the family.
Please join his family for a Celebration of Life in Vero Beach on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at King's Baptist Church (3235 58th Ave Vero Beach, FL 32966). The family will welcome friends and family during visitation from 10:00am – 11:00am. Service will begin at 11:00am.
A second Celebration of Life will be hosted in Hendersonville, Tennessee on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at First Baptist Church Hendersonville Chapel (106 Bluegrass Commons Blvd. Hendersonville, TN 37075). Friends and family are welcome during visitation from 9:00am – 11:00am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am.
As per Doug's wishes, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the organizations that were dear to his heart: King's Baptist Church https://www.vero.church/give-page/

So blessed to spend time with Doug and Nancy at their home this past February. Doug patiently advised on my golf swing. I admired his strong faith and integrity which he also presented with a full dose of humor. Gone too soon ....my deepest condolences to his beautiful family.
