Douglas Church Hasbrouck, age 97, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Doug, born in Ravenna, Ohio on July 3, 1928 attended Silver Lake Elementary School through the eighth grade when the family moved to their farm in Hudson. Doug loved the farm life, attended Western Reserve Academy graduating in 1946 with letters in track and football and then Case Institute of Technology graduating in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. He enjoyed involvement in competitive sports all four years at Case. In 1960 Doug spent a year at University of Michigan School of Public Health where he obtained a Masters degree in 1961. He then returned to Ohio as the Northeast District Principal Engineer with the Ohio Department of Health. When the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was established in 1972, he served as the first Chief of the Northeast District. He felt his work with his fellow employees was very rewarding. He retired to farming and family life after thirty plus years with the State.
Doug loved family, work, sports, and horses and farm life. He particularly enjoyed hockey, tennis, volleyball with office and family friends, and played golf into his nineties.
Doug was very active in the Hudson Congregational Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon, and other service boards through his 80 plus years of membership. Doug also served on the Hudson Park Board, the Hudson Library Board, and the City Council for two four-year terms. He also represented Hudson as a member of the Summit County Board of Health for twenty years.
Doug met the love of his life on a fishing trip to Canada in 1948. He and Helen were married in 1950 and raised their four children, Doug J., Sharman, Scott, and Blake on the family farm. They had 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Sherman and Doris Hasbrouck, brother Sherman Hasbrouck, beloved wife of 74 years Helen Hasbrouck, and granddaughter Morgan Hasbrouck.
A Memorial Service may be held at a later date.
