Douglas Dale Holgate Sr., 80, of Clarks Summit, entered eternal rest Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Grzybowski Holgate, along with six brothers, Keith, Haydon, Willard, Harper, Clifford and Boyd, as well as four sisters, Laura, Dolores "Dolly," Frances and Irma, all the children of Allen and Marian Johnson Holgate.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane Dale Holgate Jakes and husband, Joseph; his son, Douglas Dale Holgate Jr. and wife, Ruthie; grandchildren, Lisa M. Graves and husband, Robert, Joseph B. Jakes and wife, Natasha, Laura A. Mennig and husband, Brian, Mary C. Frenke and husband, Matt, and Jensen Holgate; eight great-grandchildren whom he adored; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Before his retirement, Douglas was employed by the Union of Operating Engineers - Local 542 with 40 years of exemplary service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and stock car racing, though he most enjoyed helping out his family and friends in any way he could, in his garage, or just to talk. He was truly a man of great wisdom and knowledge. He never missed an opportunity to teach or share a chapter from his book of life. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Mount Bethel Baptist Church, 1932 Layton Road, South Abington Twp. Friends may call at the church Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment and rite of committal will be conducted at Millers Cemetery, Scott Twp.
