Doug McAuliffe Obituary

Doug McAuliffe, 71, who made his earthly home in Soldotna, Alaska, went on to enjoy his heavenly dwelling on December 21, 2025. He finished life in Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 23, 1954 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Clayton and Irene McAuliffe, he grew up in Fullerton, California alongside his sister Carol and brothers Clifford and Thomas. He graduated from Fullerton Union High School in 1972; completed his Bachelor's degree in U.S. History in 1978, and obtained his California teaching certificate as well. His career as a maintenance planner for both Agrium and British Petroleum was his primary occupation, but his years teaching at Kalifonsky Christian School were the highlight of his work history. Teaching Junior High and High School students, and coaching the basketball team were deeply fulfilling years. His life in California revolved around surfing, vintage clothing, playing guitar, Boy Scouts, and backpacking with friends. In June of 1975 his life was changed forever when he asked Jesus to become Lord of his life, and not a day passed where he didn't want to share that good news with everyone. Married to Jodene in 1978, they made their home on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, always very involved with their local church. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children, Rosanne in 1980, Sarah in 1982 and Spencer in 1988. Playing guitar and singing were his primary creative outlets, both on worship team at church and bandstands from the North Slope of Alaska to cruise ships on the Caribbean. He helped a number of young men improve their guitar skills over the years. The highlight of his 26 years in community theater was Fiddler on the Roof, when he played the Rabbi's son. Always willing to lend a hand and a chainsaw, he coached little league, played softball himself, camped with his son's Boy Scout troop, built sets for theater productions, and built the home his children grew up in. Survived by his wife Jodene, daughter Rosanne (Michael) of Anchor Point Alaska, Sarah (Benjamin) of Fairbanks Alaska, son Spencer of Soldotna, Alaska, grandchildren Ryder, Hannah, Ella, Coralie, Greylon, Leyden and Emerson, sister Carol (Thomas), brothers Clifford (Leslynn) and Thomas. A celebration of life will be held at Kenai New Life, 209 Princess St. in Kenai, Alaska on Saturday February 7 at 2 pm. A livestream will be available at kenainewlife.org. Online tribute page is www.messingermortuary.com. In honor of Doug's passion for teens having godly mentors, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Young Life in your city at giving.younglife.org

Mac man, one of the first true friends I met in Alaska in 1976. Hush! A great representation of what a Biblical Christian brother should be. Always cheerful and exceedingly pleasant to be around. Loved him!
