Douglas Wayne McKenzie, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. Born on December 31, 1944, in Terrell, Texas, Douglas was a lifelong resident of Kaufman County, deeply rooted in the community he loved.
The son of Marvin Odell McKenzie and Willie Faye McKenzie, Douglas was a devoted family man and a talented engineer at heart. For over 40 years, he dedicated himself to his work at Austin Commercial, where he was known for his industrious spirit and inventive mind. Douglas had a passion for tinkering in the shop, where he would bring new ideas to life. Among his many interests, restoring his cherished 1946 Chevy Coupe was a favorite pastime.

He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren Lane and Darby Hitt, Coy McKenzie, Taylor, and Grayson, as well as a great-grandson, Conway Hitt. Douglas is survived by his sister Sherry Roberts and is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and sisters Nelda Dodson, Sue Ballard, and Vickie Johnson.
A graveside service to honor Douglas's life will be held on June 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Ware Cemetery in Kemp, Texas, where he will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
Douglas Wayne McKenzie's legacy of hard work, creativity, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
