Douglas "Doug" Mell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Lee Mell on May 20, 2024. Doug, a beloved father, and friend, left this world surrounded by the love of those he cherished most. Doug was known for his rebellious spirit, a trait that made him both unique and unforgettable. He lived life on his own terms, always ready with a quick smile and a hearty laugh, especially in the company of his close friends. His joy and sense of adventure were infectious, creating countless cherished moments with those who knew him best. Although he showed a tough exterior, Doug had a big heart and cared deeply about his family and friends.
Doug was born to William ("Bill") F. and Kay Marie Mell on September 24, 1958. Doug was a 1977 graduate of Zanesville High School. He attended Ohio Dominican University, where he was recruited to play football.
Above all, Doug's greatest pride and joy were his two sons, Douglas Lee (Michelle) Mell, II, and Charles William Mell all of Columbus, and his grandsons by Douglas, II and Michelle, Sebastian and Julius.
In addition to his sons and grandsons, Doug is survived by the mother of his children, Mischka J. Deveny; siblings Debbie (Jim "Smity" Smith) Davis, Denise Mell of Denver, CO, Dee Ann (Betty) Mell all of Zanesville; David (Crystal) Mell and Danny (Terri) Mell, all of Zanesville; and a large extended family and many friends.
Doug will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration to those he leaves behind.
