Darla L. Mell

Darla L. Mell, 90, of York peacefully passed away and returned to her heavenly home while at the Pappus House, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, days after her 90th birthday.
Darla was born on October 28, 1935 to Charles and Roberta (Dierdorff) Englar and resided in York for most of her life.
Throughout her life, she worked as a waitress at several diners in the York area to include, The Bon Ton Tea Room, Sportsman Diner, and Jay's Supermarket Snack Bar.
Later in life, she became co-owner of Shiloh Seafood Company, providing fresh seafood to several restaurants and clubs in the area.
Darla was a very proud mother of five children whom she admittedly "lived her life for." She is survived by her daughters, Kathlene Miller (Terry), Stephanie Torres (Ray), and Michele Black (Jeff). She was predeceased by two sons, Rick Allen Koontz and Stephen Blaine Koontz.
Darla is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Shawn (Tracy), Gordon (Maria), Rick (Cynthia), Gregory, Ashlee (John), Lacy, Missie (Geoff), Chad, Brett, and Eric (Jen), as well as several great and great, great grandchildren.
A private visitation for family will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 10:45AM, at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, at 839 W. Market St., York Pa. A public visitation will be from 11:30am-12:00, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 noon, with the Reverend Keith Fair officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers and acknowledging her passion for animals, donations can be made to the York County SPCA (3159 N. Susquehanna Trail York, PA 17406), or the Pappus House (66 Big Mount Rd Thomasville, PA 17364), in Darla's name.
