Douglas Allen "Al" Merritt Jr. of Spring Branch, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 around 5:30 PM, surrounded by his daughter, her mother, and his friends. Born on the 15th of May 1947 to Douglas Allen Merritt Sr. and Dorothy Andree Driscoll, in San Antonio, Texas where he spent his childhood. He attended Holly Cross High School and St. Mary's University. Where he obtained his Bachelors of the Arts, and was a member of Tau Delta Sigma. Al was a member of the San Antonio Anglers Club. He also held a lifetime membership with the Gear Grinders of San Antonio. Al was a classic car enthusiast, antique collector, loving father, and loyal friend. Survived by his only daughter Callie Mae Merritt, age 24, former wife and love of his life Laura Mae Baker – Merritt, and a vast network of friends, many he considered to be family. GRAVESIDE SERVICES: Will be held at San Fernando Cemetery II Friday August 12, 2016 at 9 AM. Custom Rod Run & Celebration of Al's life will be held at a later date.
