Douglas Kit Meshirer

Our beloved husband, step-father, grandfather, and friend, Douglas Kit Meshirer, 60, of Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on March 29, 2015. His racing family knew him as "Showtime," his grandchildren called him "Grandpa Dougo," his wife knew him as "Sweetheart," and Chloe, his border collie, knew him as "Daddy." Doug was born in Queens, New York on November 2, 1954. He made his way to Texas as a youngster with his parents, graduating in 1973 from Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, Texas. He married Shawnda Lovell on January 11, 1993. Doug was a retired airline captain from American Eagle Airlines. His other passions included drag racing, motorcycles, scuba diving, fishing, a love for animals and wildlife, troubleshooting any kind of problem, and spending time with his family. There was never a job Doug would not tackle or a challenge he would not accept. Doug thrived on competition and he loved to make others smile. He will truly be missed by all of us. Doug is preceded in death by his mother, Joan May Hartley Meshirer; his father, David Donald Meshirer; brother, Donald William Meshirer; and step-son, Eric Shawn Ruple. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Shawnda Lovell Meshirer; step-daughter, Elisha Ruple Tredaway and fiance' Thomas Carney; granddaughters, Madelyne Marie Porter and Cheyenne Elizabeth Tredaway; and grandson, Thomas James Paul Carney, all of Midland Texas; mother-in-Law, Carolyn Lovell Head of May, Texas; sisters-in-law, La Ronda Carol Lovell and Avery Ann Steel of Arlington, Texas; brother-in-law Kevin Edward Lovell, wife, Anna, daughter Alexis Lovell, son Jeremy Shane Lovell, wife, Kelci, and daughter, Ashlyn, of May, Texas. To honor Doug's wishes, a family visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 4604 Green Tree Blvd., Midland, Texas.
