Doug’s family would like to invite everyone to

Douglas Muyres, 72, of Alexandria, MN passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Alomere Health Center in Alexandria. A public visitation will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 2:00-5:00PM with a prayer service starting at 5:00 and a time of sharing to follow.

Douglas Michael Muyres was born February 11, 1951, to Merl and Iona (Dailey) Muyres. He attended elementary school in Carlos and graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria, MN in 1969. After graduation, he worked at American Fruit and Produce in Minneapolis. Three years later Doug followed a dream and went to Montana to be a “cowboy”. He fulfilled this dream by working on a ranch and participating in rodeos. In 1975 he returned home to be a part of the family business -- Muyres Truck Line. On November 22, 1980, Doug married Joyce Springer, and together with their three children they became a blended family. Soon after, they welcomed two more children.

After more than 42 years, he sold the family business and began driving truck “over the road” which fulfilled another dream. He loved seeing the sights, driving through many states, and sharing many stories of his travels. He was very proud of the miles he put on, if only we had recorded and tallied all of the miles he logged.

Doug enjoyed camping, hunting, and traveling, where he showed many sights across the country to his children and grandchildren. As a family they raised a wide variety of farm animals -- and there was always sure to be a horse! Many miles were traveled by the family on horseback or in a wagon behind a team of horses, ponies, or mules. Later in life he and Joyce traded in the horses for a side by side to continue their love of trail riding.

Doug is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce; sister, Patricia (Muyres) Serie; brother-in-law, Jerry Steidl; his children: Chris Saulsbury, Jeanne Steidl, Mike (Laura) Diedrich, Marianne (Mich) Myrum, Valerie (Steve) Gregory; grandchildren: Taylor and Cole (children of Chris), Bob, Joycelin, and Josie (children of Jeanne), Mary, Six, and Abigail (children of Mike), Madi, Aiden, and Avery (children of Marianne), Violet (daughter of Valerie); great-grandchildren: Maci (daughter of Bob), Orion and Kyrie (children of Taylor); and many beloved friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Nancy Steidl and Barbara Drexler; special uncle, Melvin Muyres; along with several other relatives a friends.
