Roseann “Rose” Arlene Johnson, 82 of Ham Lake formerly of Garfield, passed away at Atlas Villas in Ham Lake on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Funeral services will be held at Alexandria Covenant Church on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM, with a public visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Lake Ida Cemetery following services at the church.
Rose was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 26, 1943, to Ralph and Lenora (Sundquist) Kimball. In 1948, Rose and her sister Lois entered foster care with Mr. and Mrs. Dahl of Edina. Her foster mother, lovingly known as “Grandma Dahl,” became a guiding influence in Rose’s life. There, the girls grew up in a loving Christian home that created a strong foundation of faith which remained with Rose throughout her life.
While growing up in the Dahl family, Rose attended school in Edina and loved to draw, especially horses. After graduating from Edina High School, Rose was blessed with two daughters, Julie and Brenda.
In 1974, Rose married Kenneth Johnson, and they shared more than 50 years of a devoted and happy marriage together. During their many years together, Rose owned horses and loved spending time riding and being outdoors. Later, Rose and Ken discovered a shared passion for antiques and collectibles, enjoying time buying and reselling treasures and attending the Minnesota State Fair each year on their anniversary. They also enjoyed fishing and searching for agates together.
Rose and Ken spent many years living on Lake Marion in Lakeville before moving and eventually settling in Garfield near Alexandria, where they made their home for nearly 20 years. During their years in Garfield, Rose and Ken were active members of Alexandria Covenant Church. Rose loved Jesus deeply and was a devoted member who loved sharing her faith with others. She had a joyful and playful spirit, always ready to laugh or joke, carrying a love in her heart that came from the Lord. She was proud to have lived her entire life walking the path set before her through faith, without ever drinking alcohol or smoking.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenneth Johnson; her daughters, Julie (Brent) Adams of New Hope and Brenda (Ron) Hedtke of Ham Lake; grandchildren, Hanif (Joanna) Powe, Aundrey (Amanda) Wallace, Brianna (Ches) Masserano, Josh (Maddie) Adams, Nathen Eide, Nicholas (Brianna) Brown, Jeremiah (Zoey) Brown, and Cody Brown; along with many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Ralph and Lenora Kimball; her foster mother, “Grandma Dahl” of Edina; her sister, Lois Kimball; and her brother, Ralph Kimball.
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy.” — Psalm 16:11
