Selma Hendrickson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boldt Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Mar. 12, 2026.
Selma S. Hendrickson, age 91 (formerly of Owatonna), died on March 10, 2026 at Windmill Ponds Assisted Living Community in Alexandria.

Selma, daughter of Emil and Ruth (Hagel) Labs, was born in Waterville, MN on August 5, 1934. She grew up in Waterville and attended Waterville High School. She married Gordon Wanous at Sacred Heart Church in Waseca in 1954. They made their home in Owatonna, where they raised their three children.

Gordon passed away in 1971, and on April 4, 1975, she married Eugene Hendrickson. They made their home in Owatonna and were married 46 years. Selma moved to Alexandria in May of 2022 following Gene's death in August of 2021.

Selma led a simple life. She loved her home and preferred to spend most of her time there. She liked being outside and spent a lot of time tending to her flowers and giant vegetable garden. Selma was an excellent cook, enjoyed feeding her family, and canned a lot of the produce that she grew. She liked coffee, garage sales, visits with family and friends, and fishing. She loved animals (especially her cats) and enjoyed feeding all of them, whether they were hers or someone else's.

Selma is survived by her children Cindy Wanous Kubicek (Mark), Mark Wanous, and Lori Wanous Triebenbach (Bruce); grandchildren Arianne (Haugland) Pyke, Al Haugland (Kim), Alex Haugland, Amanda Seha (Jeremy), Zachary Wanous, and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Lillian Wanous and Pat Labs, brother-in-law Leroy Rockman, several nieces and nephews, and her cat Mia.

Selma was preceded in death by husbands Gordon and Eugene; her parents; sisters Elizabeth (Duane) Volk, Ruth (Gene) Glende, Shirley Rockman, Lillian Labs in childhood; brothers Donald Labs, Martin (Doris) Labs, Fred (Lorraine) Labs, Bernard (Pat) Labs, Emil and Clarence Labs in infancy; daughter-in-law Lori (Stoen) Wanous and son-in-law Albert Haugland.

A small graveside service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Steele County Humane Society.
