Faribault - Marcia Morris-Beck died on March 4, 2026 at Mill City Senior Living, following a long struggle with dementia. She was lovingly cared for by the capable staff at Mill City Senior Living and by the wonderful team from Brighton Hospice.
A memorial celebration service will be held at the Mill City Senior Living Chapel,
1520 17th St NW (3rd floor), on March 18, 2026, at 4:00 in the afternoon.
A social hour from 4-5 p.m. will be followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome.
Marcia was born on February 27, 1952, at Jennie Edmondson Hospital in Council Bluffs to her parents, Corinne Merle (Parker) and Robert Dale Morris. The family soon moved to Des Moines, where Marcia grew up alongside her brother, Timothy.
She attended Meredith Junior High and Herbert Hoover High School. During high school, she was active in journalism and theater, two passions that would shape her life. She went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, majoring in theater. After college, Marcia moved to Minneapolis.
During her early career, she met Kenneth Joseph Beck, manager of Snyder Drug. They were married on April 16, 1983. In 1984, they moved to Faribault, where they built a life rooted in community, creativity, and service.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Tim, who died at the age of 26; and her husband, Ken, who passed away in 2009.
Together, Ken and Marcia owned and operated Javalive! Community Coffee House in downtown Faribault for many years, creating a welcoming gathering place for the community. They loved performing in theater productions at the Paradise Center for the Arts. Though they did not have children of their own, they hosted three Rotary exchange students and remained close to Jade from New Zealand through the years. Marcia affectionately called Jade her "Kiwi kid," and Jade lovingly called her "Mama Marcia."
Marcia's cheerful personality and zest for life led to a rich and varied career path. She began her career in marketing with Twin City Federal in Minneapolis. In the 1980s, she sold radio advertising at KDHL and Power 96, where she especially enjoyed writing and recording ads and meeting with clients. She managed the Downtown Faribault Association, planning retail promotions and bringing resources to downtown businesses.
After earning her teaching credentials, Marcia taught theater and directed plays at Bethlehem Academy and contracted with many area high schools to direct their productions. From 2007 through 2011, she served as Director of United Way, continuing her lifelong commitment to community service.
She later worked in communications and marketing for the Girl Scouts Cannon Valley Council. Marcia also worked with Project ABLE and another organization focused on teen mental health. She managed a grant for South Central College promoting manufacturing careers for women. In later years, she did extensive substitute teaching.
Theater remained one of Marcia's greatest joys. At the Paradise Center for the Arts, she made costumes, worked behind the scenes, and performed on stage. She was also a key volunteer with The Virtues Project, becoming a certified facilitator and presenting programs for the community, schools, teachers, and students. In summer programs, she directed children in small skits, helping them discover the virtues within their characters and themselves.
In 2022, Marcia felt a longing to reclaim the Christian faith nurtured in her family life growing up. She joined Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church in Faribault and sang in the choir for as long as she was able. Her rediscovery of faith brought her great joy and comfort as she faced personal health challenges and her mortality.
Marcia moved to Mill City Senior Living in 2022 and into Memory Care in the fall of 2024.
She will be remembered joyfully by the countless friends from every chapter of her life, her Beck in-laws, many cousins and colleagues, and all who cherish her warmth, creativity, and enduring zest for life.
A private burial will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery,
