Anderson Funeral Home and CrematoryRalph Chester Thompson, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 24, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on February 17, 1940, in Floodwood, Minnesota, Ralph dedicated many years of his life to serving as a custodian at Cold Spring School, where he became a cherished figure in the community.
Ralph was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for his unwavering love for his family. His family was very important to him, and he loved them all deeply, nurturing close relationships that enriched his life and the lives of those closest to him. He and his beloved wife, Geneva, shared nearly 40 years of marriage. Their 40th wedding anniversary would have been celebrated on June 21st, a milestone that speaks to their enduring commitment to one another.
Beyond his professional and familial responsibilities, Ralph had a zest for life that was reflected in his various hobbies and interests. A passionate admirer of all things John Deere, he was an avid collector of a wide range of signs and took pride in his extensive collection of knives and pedal cars. Ralph found great joy in the outdoors, often taking trips up north near Ely or to the North Shore with Geneva or his brothers. Activities such as snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing were more than just pastimes; they were cherished experiences that allowed him to connect with nature and bond with those he loved. At home, he enjoyed watching the deer, relishing the quiet moments spent in nature's company.
Ralph leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that extends through his wife, Geneva Thompson; children, Alan (April) Thompson, Kerry (Bob) Bing, Timothy (Heidi) Lambertson, Ricky Lambertson, and Jeffery (Christine) Lambertson; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. His warmth and kindness will be lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to the joys of family and the beauty of the outdoors, and he will be missed dearly.
