Douglas Nickerson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kepner Funeral Home - Elm Grove on Feb. 20, 2025.
Douglas Edward Nickerson Sr., 63, of Wheeling, WV, entered into eternal rest with his children and former wife by his side at Wheeling Hospital on February 18, 2025, after a hard fought battle against an illness.
He was born September 15, 1961, in Wheeling, to the late Richard R. Nickerson and Lois J. Nickerson (Lepore).
He was a Catholic by faith, being baptized at St. Vincent de Paul. He was the Administrator of West Virginia DOH, Ohio County district 6. He also worked as a security guard at West Virginia Independence Hall, a truck driver for United Dairy, a transportation worker and crew chief for West Virginia DOH. He was a graduate from Wheeling Park High School and a graduate from West Virginia Business College with a degree in Paralegal.
Doug was a good man. He was a hardworking, self sacrificing, abundantly generous, forgiving, and very loving man, father, grandfather, former husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was also, and will continue to be, loved by many.
Doug enjoyed serving his role as Administrator, fishing, yardwork, watching Steelers and WVU football, and spending time with and having meals and coffee with his family. Above all else, Doug was an immensely proud father and grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with and taking care of his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Raymond Russell Nickerson.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Edward Nickerson Jr. (Carrie), Joshua Joseph Nickerson and Megan Elizabeth Hercules (Andrew); his grandchildren, Liam and Layne Nickerson and Celestina Hercules; his former wife, Andrea O'Brien-Graham; his brother, Dallas Nickerson (Paula) of Hartland, VT; his sister, Pamela Heslop (Greg) of Piedmont, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
Per Doug's request there will be no viewing or service. A celebration of life will be held at the family's discretion.
