Douglas D. Prins, age 62, of Sand Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, after a courageous two year long battle against Peritoneal Mesothelioma. Born on March 6, 1963, in San Jose, California, Doug was the son of the late Herman Prins and Elizabeth Darling. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Pamela; children, Natasha (Brandon) Hoving, Liam Prins, and Keara Prins; and grandchildren, Madelyn, Aria, and Bethany. Also surviving are his brother, Robert (Gloria) Prins of California; sister, Mindy (Willis) Hedrick of North Carolina; many cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Prins. Doug had a natural warmth that made everyone feel welcome. He was witty and sharp, always ready with a clever comeback. Near the end of his cancer journey, Doug's faith helped him maintain a positive attitude and look toward heaven with hope. He had a great love for the outdoors: deer hunting (especially bow), fishing, bird watching, and riding his quad on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. He treasured time camping with family and friends and loved to watch the sun set over Lake Michigan with them. In recent years, Doug and Pam enjoyed exploring the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and taking cruises around the Caribbean and Alaska. To his wife and children, Doug was a hard-working provider and a steady presence, always ready with sound advice and a listening ear. To his grandchildren, he was playful and jovial, always ready with a trick or tickle. After Doug earned two associate degrees from Grand Rapids Community College, he enjoyed a long sales career in the Audio Visual industry starting at Old Kent Bank and finishing at Barco, Inc., where he was considered a family member. Wining numerous sales awards and consistently ranking as a top salesman, he was known not just for his outstanding work ethic but for the deep, long-standing relationships he built with colleagues and clients. Pam and the children are deeply grateful for the staff of Faith Hospice for lovingly caring for Doug for the last five months of his life. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where a Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held Friday, August 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation or Faith Hospice.
