"Dr. Schat" as he was always known to me, was a gentleman of highest integrity, character, and unlimited kindness. Having met during a time when my integrity was being questioned, he never judged me. Always quietly guiding, mentoring, offering support when others were thumbing their noses and not necessarily being kind. Becoming friends in an environment which did not suggest friendship and certainly would not have approved of the friendship which we forged, we became friends nonetheless. Closest of friends, and best friends. Sharing a deep love of horticulture, he one day said to me "plant Lilly's for me". I did just that. They bloomed incredibly beautiful. Just as he was. Just as he ever will be held in my heart. Just as the Warren Zevon song which we shared: Hold Me In Your Heart. Warren's song says "Shadows are fallin' and I'm runnin' out of breath, Keep me in your heart for a while. If you leave it doesn't mean I love you any less, Keep me in your heart for a while..." Dr. Doug Schat - you will always be kept in my heart as the best friend a person could ever ask for. You will be missed every day. Lisa Miles

Lisa, my deepest condolences to you and your family on your loss. I met Doug through our mutual hobby of 1/6th scale figures and vehicles years ago in Denver, through a mutual friend David Aragon who was very good at bringing together fellow collectors. Through our mutual hobby we got to meet other collectors from the greater Colorado area as well as in other parts of the country. We quickly learned of Doug's passion and love for WWII Military Vehicle Modeling. Even though we were all seperated geographically from many of the other members of the group. We enjoyed talking to one another by phone, text or Email and discussing new vehicles or figures. This hobby is a small hobby in comparison to others. So we cherished these moments. Meeting people who manufactured parts to figures and vehicles or the vehicles them selves. Through Doug I met Mike Pompa from San Antonio, Texas, whom Doug and I considered a friend. It was through Mike that I learned that Doug had passed. I was really sad to learn of Doug's illness considering that when we met, I thought he was a Mr. America contestant. When I found out he would be in the hospital in denver I went to visit him. Doug was well known on collectors' websites for his collection. He was a good man who loved his wife, Lisa. We will miss him and his enthusiasm for life. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely, George Garcia
