Douglas Scott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory - Peters Creek Road on Feb. 15, 2026.
Douglas Wayne Scott, 82, of Roanoke Virginia, passed away on February 13, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Roanoke, Doug was a lifelong member of the community he loved and served with quiet dedication.

Doug shared nearly 33 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia "Patty" Scott, whose love was the center of his world. He was a Proud and devoted Dad, "Popsie", to Shannan Ferguson (Brian), Stephanie Vaughan (Matt), and Jeffrey McCoy. He was an adoring Paw Paw to Aryal Allie, Jaden McCoy, Dakota Vaughan, Jamison Ferguson, Cameron Ferguson, and Madelynne "Maddie" Ferguson, who brought him endless joy and pride. He is also survived by many extended family members, dear friends, and former coworkers who will miss his gentle presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada Christine Scott and Benton Scott; his brother, Lacy; his sister, Brenda; and his daughter-in-law, Teresa "TC" McCoy.

Doug worked for many years as a commercial tire salesman at Blue Ridge Tire Center, where he built lasting friendships and truly loved what he did. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years.

A soft-spoken, easygoing man, Doug never met a stranger and could happily spend hours simply sitting and talking with people. He took great pride in maintaining his yard, keeping up with politics and the weather, and following NASCAR-especially cheering for #3, Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed watching wrestling, old westerns, vampire movies, and anything featuring Steven Seagal or Madea, and had a sweet tooth like no other.

Doug had a special love for animals and a heart big enough for them all. His cherished companions included his kitties, Ivy and Holly, and his loyal dogs, Dakota and FiFi. He was known to feed stray animals-and even a racoon or two behind the dumpster at work-because helping others, human or not, came naturally to him.

Above all else, Doug was a kind, sweet, and selfless man-a wonderful provider with a heart of gold and the gentlest soul. His greatest pride was his family, especially his grandchildren, and he loved hearing about every detail of their lives. His unwavering and fierce love for Patty was what defined him. Their daily exchange said it best: Doug would ask, "What's the word, Patty?" She would reply, "I love you," and he would answer, "I love you more."

Doug will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, gave freely, an was cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and the countless lives he touched with his kindness.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Kanode officiating.
