Douglas Tompkins Obituary

Douglas Ira Tompkins went to sing with Jesus on October 30, 2025, at the age of 72. Doug was born to Vernon Marion and Doris Gladys on May 19, 1953, in Ritzville, Washington. In 1963, his family moved to the Tri-Cities area, where he later graduated from Pasco High School in 1972.
Doug married the love of his life, Kristi Lynn, in 1978 in Kennewick, Washington, and together they had two children. He lovingly gave them special nicknames-Bonzo and T.A.
In his professional life, Doug was a dedicated and skilled heavy equipment operator with the Benton County Road Department. He discovered his love for music while attending church at the Cathedral of the Desert in the 1990s and was baptized in 1992. Doug shared generously his most precious gift-his God-given voice. His singing was more than a hobby; it was an expression of his deep devotion. Whether leading a hymn, sharing a gospel song, or singing to bring comfort, his powerful, clear voice resonated with spiritual depth and brought joy and inspiration to all who heard him.
Doug took great pride and joy in singing alongside his brothers in Christ as part of the gospel vocal group The Fathers Five for 14 years. He later continued his musical ministry with the JC Vocal Band, as bringing smiles and happiness to others through song was what he lived for.
Beyond his work and faith, Doug was known for his energetic passion for football-especially as a devoted University of Washington Huskies fan. He wore that purple and gold proudly. He also loved weekends at the family lake home on Clear Lake, where he delighted in building the biggest bonfires for everyone to enjoy.
Above all, Doug cherished spending time with his loved ones, who were the anchor of his life. The titles "Dad" and "Grandfather" were deeply meaningful to him, and he shared boundless love, wisdom, and humor with his family. His most beloved saying, known by all who knew him for decades, was "Love you long time!" His family and friends will continue to share this message of lasting affection in his memory.
Doug is survived by his former beloved wife, Kristi Tompkins; son, Tyler (Ashley) Tompkins; daughter, Tiffany Tompkins; grandsons, Gavin, Easton, and Kash; and great-grandson, Pierce. He is also survived by his siblings, Vernita (Calvin) Coffey, Dorwinn Tompkins, Daryl (Tammy) Tompkins, and Verna Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Marion; mother, Doris Gladys; and niece, Brenda Marie Coffey.
A memorial service and celebration of Doug's life will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m. at The Living Room Community Church. Lunch will be provided following the celebration. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Living Room Community Church in appreciation of their generosity.
