Douglas "Doug" Ray Wernsing, 65, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Willowbrook Memory Support Residences in Effingham, IL.
The family will host a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.
Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois or the Willowbrook Memory Support Residences in Effingham, IL. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Doug was born on September 28, 1958 in Effingham, IL, the son of George Wernsing and Doris (Boy) Wernsing Medlin. He served in the United States Navy. His hobbies included drinking beer, watching Chicago Bears football, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends.
Doug is survived by his son, Nicholas "Nick" Wernsing; daughter, Kaitlyn "Katie" Wernsing; grandchildren, Liam Wernsing, Bella Newberry, and Lincoln Newberry; brother, Scott (Jeri) Wernsing; and sister, Jenny Wernsing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William "Bill" Wernsing; and grandparents, John and Clara Boy.

Jenny and Scott, so sorry to hear about Doug. It's been awhile since I've seen him. He had a contagious laugh and was never afraid to speak his mind.
