Douglas Young Obituary

Douglas Young, 82, of the Iowa City area passed away on July 31, 2024 at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 4:00 â€" 6:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Douglas was born on November 29, 1941 in Brush, Colorado to Max and Mabelle (Means) Young. He grew up in Brooklyn, Iowa, where he graduated from Brooklyn High School. Doug earned his bachelors degree in Business in 1964 at the University of Iowa and would eventually earn his masters degree there in 1995. Doug married his high school sweetheart, Jo Noble, on August 10, 1963 in Brooklyn, Iowa at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The couple settled in Iowa City in 1963 where together they raised their three children and spent 61 loving, adventurous and memorable years together. He began his career at The University of Iowa, where he left an impressive legacy throughout his 45 year tenure in the business office. Doug retired as the Director of Financial Management and Budget in 2009. He loved singing, all kinds of sports and quizzing friends and family with brain teasers. Doug was an avid Hawkeye fan who rarely missed a game and was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Friends will remember Doug's ever present sense of humor and incredible generosity. He was devoted to his family and loved them unconditionally with all his heart. He is survived by his wife Jo Young, three children Tracy (Thatcher) VandenBergh, Angela Young, and Justin (Kathryn) Young, all of Colorado, four grandchildren Emerson and Teagan VandenBergh, and Charlotte and Theodore "TJ" Young, sister Dianne (Michael) Dalton, and sister-in-law Linda Noble (Larry Larson). Doug was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Ronald Lee. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
