Dovis L Ashby III, known affectionately as David to his loved ones, was welcomed into the loving arms of our Savior on November 7, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on November 19, 1964, in Shreveport, Louisiana, David was a man whose life was marked by a deep love for his family, a passion for the great outdoors, and an unwavering faith in Christ.
David's early years were spent under the nurturing guidance of his parents, the late Dovis L Ashby II and Kay Lewing, who survives him. Though his step-father Hosea Lewing and grandparents, Marie and Dovis L Ashby Sr., along with Edna Frances and John Sanders, preceded him in death, their influence on David's life was profound and lasting. His sister Rhonda Ashby and a host of family members, including his loving children, Michael (Ashley), Brandon (Pam), Madelon (Cody), and Austin, continue to carry his legacy forward.
David's professional life was as robust as his personal one, having dedicated 15 years to the Caddo Parish Highway Department and another 15 to the Sabine Coal Mine, where his work ethic and camaraderie were well-respected by all who knew him. His commitment to both his career and his colleagues was a testament to his character, and his impact on those he worked with will not soon be forgotten.
A devout Christian, David lived his faith and instilled its values in his family. His love for God was evident in his every action, from the way he raised his children to his interactions with friends and strangers alike. David's adventurous spirit led him to explore the wonders of creation, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and the pursuit of the elusive BigFoot. His love for operating heavy equipment was not just a job but a passion, one that allowed him to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of the earth.
David's zest for life extended to his adored grandchildren, Cooper, Carter, Hudson, Emersyn, Leighton, Alex (Shalyne), Raygan (Gracie), Cody Dale Jr., Oakley Dale, and Brantley Dale, who brought immeasurable joy to his days. He was also a cherished uncle to Anna (Garrett) and Sarah (Jerry), and great-grandfather to Kohen, whose arrival added a new layer of happiness to his life.
Those who had the privilege of knowing David will remember him as a loving, friendly, and adventurous soul. His ability to light up a room with his presence and to offer a helping hand to anyone in need was a reflection of Christ's love in him. His laughter was contagious, his stories captivating, and his heart generous beyond measure.
We bid farewell to a man who was not only the cornerstone of his family but also a beacon of faith and friendship in his community. David's journey on earth may have come to an end, but his story continues through the lives he has shaped and the love he has spread. Until we meet again, may he rest in the glory of God's everlasting embrace.
