Downing Jeffrey Duncan, known affectionately as Jeff, age 60, of Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Jeff was born on July 13, 1964 in Rome, GA, where he spent his entire life in Celanese.
Jeff was a proud graduate of Model High School and had a fulfilling career as a dispatcher for Norfolk-Southern. His exceptional intelligence was complemented by a remarkable photogenic memory, allowing him to excel in many aspects of his life, including his ability to spell with precision! He was known for his smart and vibrant personality, leaving a lasting impression on those around him.
He was a faithful member of Riverside Baptist Church since 1973, Jeff demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his faith and community. His involvement in the church served as a testament to his character and dedication. In his younger years, he enjoyed participating in the RA teams softball and basketball leagues and played tennis, embracing the joy of sports and camaraderie.
Jeff is survived by his beloved sisters, Robin Clark and her husband Chad of Rome, GA, and Melissa Brooks of Rome, GA. Additionally, he leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends who cherished their time with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Joe and Patsy Pearson Duncan; his brother-in-law, Randy Brooks; and his special dogs, Jake, Major, and Princess.
Funeral services for Jeff will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 26, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Barry McCullough and Pastor Randy Lambert officiating.
Jeff’s family will receive friends Saturday at Salmon Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Cantrell, Cary McCullough, Al Finger and the past co-teammates of his RA teams.
