Dr. Caleb Galen Abbott, 84, passed away December 25, 2025 at home. He was born June 15, 1941, in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of Dr. Galen and Ruth Abbott. He graduated from El Dorado High School, earned degrees in mathematics and physics at Southwestern College where he also ran track, and earned a Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He was proud to be a third generation optometrist. He served in the army at Fort Leonard Wood as a captain practicing optometry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; and older brother, Stephen. He is survived by his son, Dr. Carl Abbott (Debbie); daughter, Tara Abbott; brother, Dr. Warren Abbott (Anita); two granddaughters, Carly Willeford (Jordan) and Kaylee Abbott; and great-granddaughter, Charlene.
Caleb enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading the newspaper, planting trees, singing in the church choir, metal detecting, his family, and friends. Earlier in life, he enjoyed painting, photography, ham radio, classical music, reading science fiction, and jogging then walking around the lake. He was a life-long student, enjoying many classes beyond his optometry degree.
Memorial Gathering for Dr. Abbott will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion, Kansas. Memorial Service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Marion Cemetery.
