Reverend Dr. Charlie Dean Parmer was born on March 27, 1938, in Bell County, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 29, 2025

Dr. Parmer earned degrees from Texas A&M College (now Texas A&M University) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He began his professional life as a teacher at Belton Junior High School before devoting himself full-time to ministry.

Over the course of his lifetime, Dr. Parmer faithfully served numerous congregations, including First Baptist Church, Bennington, Oklahoma; San Gabriel Baptist Church, San Gabriel, Texas; First Baptist Church, Lyford, Texas; First Baptist Church, Lexington, Texas; Elliott Baptist Church, Elliott, Texas; First Baptist Church, Kosse, Texas; Pershing Park Baptist, Killeen, Texas; Parker Lane Baptist Church, Austin, Texas; First Baptist Church, Bartlett, Texas; First Baptist Church, Nolanville, Texas; Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church, Killeen, Texas (Min. of Ed); Pioneer Baptist Church, Nolanville, Texas; and Trimmier Baptist Church, Killeen, Texas.

Dr. Parmer also worked at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he played a key role in establishing the International Student Program in the early 1980s. Later in life, he founded the New American International Bible Institute and Seminary, through which he ministered to and taught hundreds of students.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robbie Ray Parmer and Mary O’Dell Parmer; his sister, Joyce Evelyn Parmer; his brother, William Ray Parmer; his first wife, Lyndal Wolverton Parmer; and his second wife, Jeanette Moore Parmer.

He is survived by his sisters, Doris Mae Parmer Sayler of Cedar Park and Leona Marie Parmer of Harker Heights, Texas; his children, Teri Parmer Sutterfield and husband Dale of Kerrville, Deana Parmer Garrick and husband Jonathan of Harker Heights, and Martin “Chip” Ray Parmer and wife Clarissa of Marlin, Texas. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Lt. Commander Bryson Sutterfield and wife Kelsey of Round Rock, Braden Sutterfield and wife Mary Elizabeth of Plainview, Alyxis Garrick Wood and husband Josh of Harker Heights, Joshua Garrick and wife Ashley of Harker Heights, Anaissa Parmer of College Station, Andrew Parmer, and Ariel Parmer of Marlin, along with seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen. A private burial service for immediate family will be held at a later time.
