Crystal Baker Obituary

Dr. Crystal Justina Baker, age 49, departed this life on Monday, September 4, 2023. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Crystal was a 1992 graduate of St. Mary's Academy, and continued her studies at Xavier University of Louisiana where she received a Bachelor Degree of Science with a concentration in Chemistry and her Doctorate of Pharmacy. She also attended UNO and Southern University of New Orleans. She went on to become a member of Alpha Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in 1998. She did her internship and worked in the pharmacy departments at Walgreens, Veterans Administration Hospital, and CVS. However, her career plans were dwafted due to a lengthy illness. As an avid shopper, one great thing about Crystal was that she could negotiate with you to give her the best deal on various items. Shortly after Katrina, she and her family temporarily resided in Baton Rouge, LA. She negotiated a deal on their furniture and found them a place to stay before they returned to New Orleans. After which she and her family moved to the Westbank in Algiers, LA. She had great ideas, aspirations, and goals. Although limited, she wanted to travel and because of her physical disability, she planned to help others with special needs. Loving daughter of Deborah Baker. Devoted sister of Christopher Coleman. Cherished niece of Barbara Baker. Great niece of Mary Butler and Ruth S. Newell; also survived by a host of cousins, sorors, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, Fifth African Baptist Church, and neighboring churches; Members of Alpha Kappa Sorority Inc. Alpha Beta Omega Chapter, and The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc, Alpha Theta Chapter are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe Street, Gretna, LA on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the parlor.
