Dr. Daniel Stewart Strain, descended from pioneer north and central Louisiana families and a prominent Shreveport pulmonary physician, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center on Greenwood Road after a lengthy illness. Danny ran to Jesus and received his eternal healing after a long-fought battle on earth. He was 70 years old.

Born in Shreveport June 14, 1952 to Dr. James Robert Strain and his wife, registered nurse Dorothy Jane Stahl Strain, he attended St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas. A University of Michigan alumnus, he graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1979, as part of the school’s largest graduating class to that date.

Danny worked many years at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, with which three generations of his family, including his father, grandfather and uncle, the late Thomas Everett Strain Sr. and Thomas Everett Strain Jr., respectively, were affiliated. He also worked at the LSU School of Medicine and Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, and partnered many years with Dr. Randy Bryn. He also assisted his former wife Terry Lynn Strain at the Pool of Siloam Ministries.

A world traveler in his younger days, he was known as an expert on the care of tortoises, turtles and snakes, and had a large holding of turtles, tortoises and other animals at his property in west Shreveport.

Danny is survived by daughters, Hannah Rebecca Strain Dupont and her husband, Tyler Chase Dupont, of Keithville and Stacey Renee’ Strain of Shreveport; two brothers, Keith Eliot Strain of Lafayette and David Crawford Strain of Oregon, and their children; sister, Lila Lisa Strain Prime and her husband, John, and their sons; and grandchildren, Emma Jeannette Dupont, Abigail Lynn Dupont, Breanna Danielle Lubas, Bryson Daniel Lubas, Brayden David Lubas, Joseph Shawn Ray Jr. and Gabriel Alexander Ray. He also is survived by his former spouse and special friend, Terry Lynn Strain, and numerous cousins spread across the nation.

Services will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Paul Navarre, who led Danny to the Lord in 2019, officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial with graveside rites will follow at Forest Park West in Shreveport, Louisiana. Following the burial, a reception for family and friends will be at Rose Park Baptist Church, 5560 Buncombe Road, Shreveport.

Honoring Daniel as pallbearers will be John Andrew Prime, Bryson Daniel Lubas, Brayden David Lubas, Dr. Randy Bryn,  Barry Gilbert and George Hodges. Serving as honorary pallbearers will include Jeremy Paul Prime, Daniel Webster Prime, Keith Eliot Strain and David Crawford Strain.

The family would like to thank Dr. Randy Bryn for his care of Danny during his final days, and also the professional staff at Willis-Knighton Medical Center and its affiliated offices.
