Mary Lou Cox Weinstein

Mary Lou Cox Weinstein, age 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, grace, and deep devotion to her family.

Mary was a loving mother, devoted sister, and compassionate grandmother whose warmth was felt by everyone she met. She lived her life with genuine compassion at the forefront of all she did and was known for her gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and for never having an unkind word to say about anyone. Mary carried herself with grace and dignity, holding herself to a high standard in all things. She was a true lady in every sense of the word, always composed, thoughtful, and refined in the way she lived and treated others.

Born on November 14, 1935, in Bradley, Arkansas, Mary graduated from Brightstar High School in 1952. She later attended Texarkana Junior College on a basketball scholarship, an early reflection of her determination and lifelong love of sports.

Mary had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. Early in her career, she worked at the Modern Clothing Store, where she was famously able to size a man’s suit simply by looking at him, a talent that never failed to impress. She later dedicated 37 years of her life to Good Home Center, working there from 1983 until 2020. More than a salesperson, Mary truly knew her customers. Many would walk in just to look and leave having furnished an entire home, all because of her honesty, charm, and sincere care. The same warmth and attentiveness she showed in her work defined the way she lived her life and cared for those around her.

Family was always at the center of Mary’s life, and her greatest joy came from time spent with her grandchildren. She cherished their Friday night Hickory Stick dates and Saturday morning breakfast visits, traditions filled with laughter, stories, and an easy closeness that made everyone feel at home. Football season held a special place in her heart, especially the time spent watching games with her grandson Lewis, moments that became treasured memories for them both.

Mary truly loved life and embraced it with enthusiasm and joy. She loved playing dominos, fishing, and spending time out and about, always drawn to places filled with energy, conversation, and laughter. Whether cheering on her favorite teams, enjoying an evening out, or fishing with friends, Mary carried a genuine zest for life that never faded. Even in her final days, she was still smiling, moving to the music, and embracing each moment with joy.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Weinstein; stepson, Steven Weinstein; and siblings, Kenneth Cox, Ben Cox, and Melba Chenney.

She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Sam Fertitta; adored grandson, Lewis Fertitta; cherished granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lindsey and Ric Linder; and treasured great-granddaughter, Nora Linder, who brought her immense joy; stepsister, Bettye Taylor (Bo Taylor); stepdaughters, Linda Norton (John Norton) and Terri Weinstein (Donald Christensen); step-grandchildren, Joseph Norton, Victoria Norton, Joshua Norton, Brendan Norton, Adrianna Norton, Katherine Norton, and Eric Weinstein; and great-step-grandchildren, Sienna, Luca, and Sonny.

Mary will be remembered for her gentle heart, strong work ethic, infectious smile, and unwavering love for her family. Her presence made people feel seen, valued, and cared for, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Charnell Randell, Mary’s devoted caregiver, for the compassion, patience, and love she showed. Your kindness brought comfort and dignity to Mary’s days and will always be remembered with sincere appreciation.

A Celebration of Life for Mary will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Savoie’s, 2441 E 70th St., Shreveport, Louisiana. The family requests flowers to be sent to Savoie's the day of the service.
