PEABODY - Dr. Edward Richard Barbagallo, 89, of Peabody, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Edward leaves behind a legacy of dedication and commitment to his family and community.
Born in Boston on August 3, 1936, Edward was the son of the late Salvatore and Lucia (Coronella) Barbagallo. He is survived by his wife and best friend Kristin Abbott with whom he shared 20 wonderful years of marriage and a friendship that spanned four decades. Edward’s passion for education was evident throughout his life. After graduating from Arlington High School Class of 1954 , he pursued his Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry at Tufts University. He completed his studies in 1961, followed by four years in the Army (three in Munich, Germany), where he served as a Captain in the Dental Corps. His dental practice in Lowell of over 30 years became a beacon of hope for many, as he welcomed everyone in need of care and made a lasting impact on this community.
As a person who loved the outdoors, Ed shared his passions for walking in the woods, kayaking, and playing tennis with his children, grandchildren, and wife. Winter brought out his adventurous spirit as he took to cross-country skiing and ice skating, embracing the beauty of nature with joy and enthusiasm. In his retirement, Ed and his wife Kristin enjoyed travels to France, England, Alaska, and many national parks. Ed was a lifelong learner with courses at Tufts, Brooksby Village, and through reading.
He leaves behind his son, Christopher Barbagallo and his wife, Mary of Melrose, MA; three daughters, Maria Cunningham and her husband Jim of Danvers, MA, Anita Kealey and her husband Sean of Fairport, NY, and Julia Thomé of Upper Black Eddy, PA. Edward was a proud grandfather to 7 grandchildren: Yasmeen Thomé, Lucia Thomé, Christina Cunningham, Jimmy Cunningham, Ryan Kealey, Erin Kealey, and Sophia Barbagallo. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his first wife Dawn (Ledgard) Barbagallo, his twin sister Marie Todd, and his brothers Charles and Joseph Barbagallo.
As we celebrate the life of Dr. Edward Richard Barbagallo, we remember a man who made the world a brighter place through his dedication to family and community. His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
