Dr. Carl Floyd Obituary

Visit the Chancellor Funeral Home - Byram website to view the full obituary.

Dr. Carl Floyd, a devoted pastor, respected community figure, and loving family man, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Brandon, Mississippi. Born on September 5, 1939, to William Floyd and Alma Dawson Floyd in Simpson County, Mississippi. Dr. Floyd’s life was marked by unwavering dedication to faith, family, and service.

Before answering his pastoral call, Dr. Floyd served the Jackson Police Department for eleven years, demonstrating a commitment to public safety and community well-being. His calling to ministry led him to found Fellowship Baptist Church, where he faithfully pastored for an extraordinary 51 years. Under his leadership, the church became a beacon of hope, faith, and love within the community. Dr. Floyd’s influence was profound; his love for the gospel and passion for sharing its message inspired countless lives throughout his tenure.

A scholar, Dr. Floyd held a Masters in Ministry from Faith Baptist Christian College in Kentucky and went on to earn his doctorate in Ministry from Baptist Christian University in Shreveport, LA and earned a doctorate in Divinity from Tristate Baptist College in Walls, MS.  His pursuit of his education was a testament to his deep intellectual engagement with his faith and his desire to serve his congregation with wisdom and compassion. Beyond his pastoral duties, he was also the choir director at Fellowship Baptist Church, where his love of gospel music enriched the worship experience for all who attended.

Dr. Floyd was a man of diverse interests. He had a special fondness for hunting, particularly fox, coon, and rabbit hunting, activities that brought him joy and connection with nature.

Family was central to Dr. Floyd’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Linda Warren Floyd; his son, Carlton Floyd, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; his daughter, Carla Floyd Rigdon, and son-in-law, Brent. He was a proud grandfather to Jonathan Rigdon, Brandon Rigdon, Hunter Floyd, and Travis Floyd.

Dr. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, William Floyd and Alma Dawson Floyd; and his siblings Prentiss Floyd, R.W. Floyd, Katie Boyles, and Mathia Swartz. Their legacy and memories remain cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.

Throughout his life, Dr. Carl Floyd was much more than a pastor or a leader; he was a compassionate friend, a dedicated servant of God, and a man who loved people deeply. His care for his congregation and his community was evident in every action, every sermon, and every note of gospel music he directed. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Dr. Floyd’s passing marks the end of an era but also the beginning of a lasting memory that will live on in the Fellowship Baptist Church and in the hearts of his family and community. His devotion to his calling and the love he showed throughout his life remain a shining example to us all.
