Dr. James C. "Buddy" Moore

 

Funeral services for Dr. James “Buddy” Moore, 67, of Sterlington, will be held at 10:00am Saturday, December 31, 2022, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe, LA, with Rev. R. B. Moore officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will be from 5:00pm - 7:00pm Friday at Mulhearn  Funeral Home.

Buddy was born June 28, 1955, in Mobile, Alabama, and passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, in West Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walker Moore and Barbara Ann Cluthe Moore and brother, Robert David Moore. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Kathleen (Kathy) Denise Moore; brother William (Bill) Walker Moore and wife Annie; children Margaret (Meg) Alberta Moore and husband Bryan Cockey, James Cluthe Moore, Jr. and wife Anna, Aaron August Moore, and Daniel Wesley Moore; grandchildren James-Atlas (Jac) Cluthe Moore, David Nathaniel Cockey, Graham Walker Moore, and Elizabeth (Libby) Kathleen Cockey; and beloved dachshund Beenie Weenie.

Dr. James C. Moore earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music from Northeast Louisiana University, where he continued on to earn a Master’s degree in Theory and Composition. Later, after he found his passion for education, he returned to earn his Doctorate in Education from the Louisiana Education Consortium. Dr. Moore is a member of the Eta Iota Chapter for Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, a social fraternity for musical students that is 125 years old.

Buddy was a life-long music educator. His students and colleagues knew him as Dr. Moore, the man with the guitar. He said he had the best job in the world, getting to wind children up and then hand them back to their regular classroom teachers, but it was so much more than that. Dr. Moore inspired thousands of students to a love of music. He was proud to supervise student teachers, helping to raise up the next generation of music educators. He was part of a team that wrote the Louisiana state curriculum for classroom music. He followed the progress of many former students and always delighted to hear about their successes, particularly when they involved music. 

Dr. Moore loved making music. He participated in the choral music program in college (where he met his wife Kathy), was a faithful member of the church choir at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for many years, and participated in the Monroe Symphony Chorus for several seasons. He especially loved making music with his children and listening to their performances, never missing a concert, recital, or show.

Buddy was passionate about Scouting. Having participated in Boy Scouts at a young age, he was very interested in providing the experience for his own sons, as well as for boys in the community. Buddy chartered Pack 3 in Sterlington when there was no active Scouting program, where he served as Cubmaster of Pack 3 and later as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 3. He was inducted into Scouting’s honor society, The Order of the Arrow, and received several of Scouting’s highest adult honors, such as Silver Beaver, Order of the Arrow: Vigil Honor, and the District Order of Merit. He made several of Boy Scout’s biggest pilgrimages - Philmont, National Jamboree, and more, but he also loved his home camp of Camp T. L. James and the Scouting family he made there.

Buddy was a devoted husband, loving father, and enthusiastic grandfather. He was also a dedicated servant of God, always looking for opportunities to serve. From church mission trips like Mountain T. O. P. to simply keeping coats in the trunk of his car to give to students who were without, he always looked to “do unto the least of these”.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Louisiana Purchase Council of the Boy Scouts of America or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
