In Loving Memory of Dr. Kuruvilla Kurian, Ph.D. (1959-2024)
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Kuruvilla Kurian, Ph.D., a beloved member of our community and the St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Church in Raleigh, who departed this life at the age of 65.
Dr. Kurian, affectionately known as Thampachayan and KK, was a devoted husband to Mrs. Binu Kurian and a loving father to Martin, Mauria, and Yaseen. He earned his Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Anatomy from Sardar Patel University in 1986, which led to a distinguished career with Veterans Healthcare Systems in Durham, where he retired after 22 years with honor.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Kurian’s commitment to the community was profound. He served as the Vice President of GCKA, where he played a key role in starting the Malayalam class and establishing the youth group. His leadership and vision left a lasting impact on many lives. He continued to serve the Burlington community as a Director on the board of the Open Door Clinic of Alamance County from 2017-2018. Additionally, his faith and commitment to the Saint Gregorios Orthodox Parish were evident as he served as the church Secretary in 2013 and played an instrumental role in the growth and development of the church.
Dr. Kuruvilla Kurian's legacy of service, love, and faith will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know him.
May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory.
