Harry Oscar Updegraff was born on March 31, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York. He passed away peacefully at his residence on March 25, 2026.
Harry served his country honorably in The United States Marines. Harry lived a life full of dedication and love. Early in his career, he served proudly as one of New York's finest police officers. Later, he moved to Pennsylvania where he worked as a high-rise steel inspector.
He was a devout Catholic and regularly attended St. Mary's Assumption in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania. Harry loved the simple joys of country living. He spent much of his free time hunting and fishing, which were some of his favorite pastimes. At home, he found great pleasure in making homemade bread and pizza. When friends and family came to visit, Harry would prepare a big breakfast for everyone, showing how much he cared by these warm and generous acts.
Harry was a man who loved his family deeply. He adored his wife, Carmen Vazquez Updegraff, whom he lovingly called Cesi. Together they shared sixty years of memories. Harry was also a proud father to his children: Jennie Watson (Tony), Julie Paddock (Gary), Harry Updegraff, Victor Updegraff (Lisa), Jordan Updegraff, and Valerie Bravo (Rigoberto). His grandchildren included Chelsea Graziano (Thomas, T.J.), Thomas Brinton (Brittney), Ashley Owen (Justin), Alex Updegraff, Karissa, Anthony and Mitchel Watson, Riley Finan and Alyssa Updegraff, Yandel, Anna, and Scarlett Bravo. He was blessed with several great-grandchildren who brought him joy.
He is survived by all his living family who loved him deeply and will remember him fondly.
Harry also leaves behind a legacy that includes those family members and friends who have passed before him. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Updegraff; his mother, Jennie Maresca Updegraff; his grandson, Gary Paddock Jr.; and his sisters, Ruth Finnegan, Mary Delmar, and Joanne Bartik. His best friends George Kane and Jack Martin also passed away before him.
Harry Oscar Updegraff will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a loyal friend, and someone who lived life with love and family. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
