Helmer Pass Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sharpe Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 29, 2026.
It has been said that 7 intrinsic values are characteristic of a woman of God: dignity, patience, diligence, generosity, courage, wisdom and devotion. Such was our dear mother without a doubt.

Mrs. Helmer Semethod Rogers Pass was born January 11, 1928, in Leasburg, NC. She spent her childhood there and attended the Caswell County School System, as well as joining St. James Baptist Church in Leasburg at an early age. It was in Leasburg also that she found the love of her life, Floyd Pass, whom she married on August 10, 1957. They went on to share 54 beautiful years together before Floyd was called home in 2012. Early in their marriage, they relocated to Mt. Vernon, NY, where Floyd found work and Helmer became a loving housewife.

Helmer and Floyd were loving, caring parents who provided a good foundation for their children to face life and its challenges, good or bad. They also instilled in them a desire and need to seek a quality education by finishing high school and college. They both have been very successful.

For this precious mother, introducing her children to Christ was very important. She raised them in First Baptist Church in Mamaroneck, NY while in Mt Vernon. Knowing that her children knew Christ for themselves made it easy for Mrs. Pass to return to her home church, St. James Baptist Church in Leasburg after retirement. She was a devoted and dedicated Deaconess, and Missionary worker.

Throughout her life, Helmer had always worked hard but most of all she enjoyed being a wife and mother. Cooking soul food and other delicious meals and "sweet rice" made her happy, but her family even happier!

Being the dutiful wife and mother, she made sure dinner was on the table by 5:30pm every day, just waiting on her husband. She also loved growing flowers and gardening. It was only after her children finished high school that she worked outside the home, giving 10 years as an electronic technician for different manufacturing companies. Mrs. Pass' life was one to be emulated. We thank God for her longevity. Her work will speak for her.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard, Dewey, Ruffin, Preston, and Charles, and sisters Elizabeth, Blanche, and Annie.

Surviving are her children, daughter Avis Diana Pass Goode of the home, and son William Allen (Jean) Pass of Winston-Salem, NC. Sister Marie Williams of Roxboro, NC.Grandchildren Sterling (JaLeah) Goode of Fort Bragg, NC, Jalen Denard Pass of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and Miracle Zhané (pronounced Ja-nah) Pass of Winston-Salem, NC. Great grandchildren Sterling Goode, Jr. of Fort Bragg, NC, Prince McDonald of Fort Bragg, NC, Liam Goode of Fort Bragg, NC, Messiah Jay Pass of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Kameron Goode of Fort Bragg, NC, and Karson Goode of Fort Bragg, NC. Sister-in-law Jannie Pass of Roxboro, NC, and special Caregivers Sherby Jean Stewart of Semora, NC and Olean Moore of Leasburg, NC.
